Overview

Lander Analytics is a boutique data science and AI firm in New York. We've run the New York Open Statistical Programming Meetup for over a decade, host the New York and Government Data Science & AI Conferences, and write the books and courses people use to learn R and Python. We also build production systems for government agencies, finance, academic research, retail, manufacturing, insurance, energy, pharmaceuticals, and NFL front offices.

Scope

You'll help run the pipelines behind a federal data platform—hundreds of them, in production, moving financial data every day. We're looking for someone early in their career who wants to learn cloud data engineering on a system that's already operating at scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, test, and maintain ETL pipelines under the guidance of senior engineers

  • Write clean, well-documented Python for data ingestion, transformation, and validation

  • Help monitor pipeline runs and troubleshoot data quality issues

  • Contribute to the team's shared Python library and internal ETL standards

  • Participate in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, standups, retros)

  • Document your work clearly for teammates and stakeholders

  • Take on increasing ownership of pipelines as you build proficiency

Requirements

  • 0-2 years of experience in data engineering, software engineering, or a related field

  • Solid foundation in Python and SQL

  • Basic understanding of ETL concepts and data pipeline design

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS preferred)

  • Strong attention to detail and eagerness to learn

  • Comfortable asking questions and working collaboratively on a team

  • Ability to work closely with an entirely remote team

  • U.S. citizenship, with no dual citizenship, required (federal contract eligibility requirement)

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust designation

Bonus Skills

  • Exposure to AWS services (Glue, S3, Athena, Lambda, or similar)

  • Coursework or personal projects involving Apache Spark, dbt or Airflow

  • Experience with PySpark

  • Knowledge of Docker

  • Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows

  • Interest in data quality, testing, or observability practices

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field
